The potential development of a coastal area can be mainly focused on aquaculture, tourism, or energy production sector. The impact assessment of climate change in coastal regions and their possible adaptation require multi-dimensional and long-term analysis of the different growth prospects considering their natural and anthropogenic environment.

Mining is included among the activities that face a range of climate change-related challenges and problems. This fact could put the viability of the sector at risk. So far, the response of the mining industry seems to be rather disproportionate to the potential impacts, although the importance of the climate change phenomenon for the industry is recognized; indeed mining activities are already suffering the effects of climate changes.
